"Viking03" (Viking03)

I have recently acquired a new to me vehicle. I was looking at the 83' Mercedes Wagon, but after driving it I decided I agreed with y’all’s assertions that it was crap to drive. Besides the wife vetoed it. I found a very clean 86' Grand Wagoneer. It fits the whole family. I can rebuild every component of this truck in my sleep. It’s in good shape and I love it.
If anyone is interested, the lease on my ‘14 Fiesta ST is up in May and she will be up for grabs in Corpus Christi, Texas. Only 10,000 miles. It has been a great car, but it is time for me to move on.

YES! I looked at a Grand Wagoneer before I bought my car. Would’ve bought one if I didn’t mind DDing something so old. God I love those things.

It’s an 80s model, so it is one of those fabled wooden stickers.

This may seem like a dumb question but it is one that I have always wondered about wagoner’s. Is the wood paneling actually wood or is it some cheap decal/faux wood?

I was able to stay under my $10,000 goal and there is not a spot of rust on it.

Well bought, that’s not a bad price for rust free, correct wheels even.

So on a scale of 1 to 10, how good did it feel to take the keys in hand?
Also, great buy. I dream daily of owning a clean example of one of these.

I believe the originals started as a wood veneer. It went to a plastic paneling and now this one is a spectacular decal. I’m trying to decide what to do with it. I think I am going to try and keep it as stock as possible with the sticker.

Very nice. Congrats. One of those was my first car and I adored it so much. Up until gas started getting expensive, of course. Interesting fake wood treatment. I miss the blonde wood borders. But, the black paint is sweet.

I would keep it stock looking, maybe put some different wheels and tires on it but other than that I would keep everything looking as stock as possible.

360V8. 110,000 miles, no rust, everything works even the AC. I have already changed out worn steering bushings and trans mounts. California car. The interior is the epitome of the 80s, bright red vinyl and thick red carpeting. I’m going to keep it stock which is rare for me. Not perfect but in great shape for the price.

Oh this is about a 9. I have always wanted one of these and was super excited that I finally got one and even more excited that it was in as this good of condition. It drives just like I remember they did.

No bigger tires?

I have set a goal to be on the road by the end of this month. Interior is almost done and the wiring is nearly there. I am going to try and take off every Friday until it is done. I am so close I am foaming at the mouth.

For once I think I will keep it stock. I will swap in some off road tires, but it will not be going up. I love the way it looks at rides. Not that I intend to sell it, but I think these values are on the rise and unmolested ones are starting to pull a premium. At the most, it might get some minor power adders.

Alright as long as we’re at least doing tires I can’t complain too much.
Obviously I also enjoy full size Jeep SUV’s giving we have the modern one, the Commander
